MANILA — Some House lawmakers say the strong evidence presented against Vice President Sara Duterte has pushed Senate leaders to prepare for a possible impeachment trial.
The House Committee on Justice has found probable cause to impeach Duterte after completing three hearings on two impeachment complaints under its review.
Lawmakers wrapped up discussions on accusations that Duterte allegedly made death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
Committee chair Gerville Luistro then opened the floor for motions to determine probable cause.
Rep. Franz Vincent Legazpi moved to approve the third impeachment complaint, which was seconded and passed without objection.
A nominal vote followed, with 53 lawmakers voting in favor and none opposing or abstaining.
Legazpi also moved to approve the fourth complaint, which was similarly approved unanimously.
