MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday advised the public to prepare for continued wet weather as a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon are expected to bring rain across several regions of the country.
As of 3:00 a.m., the LPA was observed near Baggao, Cagayan. Weather experts said the system is unlikely to strengthen into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, but it remains capable of generating widespread rain showers and thunderstorms.
Areas expected to receive scattered rainfall include the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon. PAGASA warned that heavy downpours may cause flash floods, landslides, and other weather-related hazards, especially in low-lying communities and mountainous areas.
The southwest monsoon is also affecting Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras, where intermittent moderate to heavy rains are anticipated throughout the day.
For the rest of the country, localized thunderstorms are expected to bring isolated rain showers, particularly during the afternoon and evening.
At sea, moderate to strong winds will continue to affect Northern and Central Luzon, producing moderate to rough waves. Elsewhere, sea conditions are expected to remain slight to moderate.
PAGASA also reported that Typhoon Dolphin was located about 2,330 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon early Tuesday. Although the cyclone is being monitored, it remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is not expected to enter the country’s monitoring area within the next 24 hours.
