MANILA — State weather bureau PAGASA reported that Typhoon “Inday” (international name: Bavi) remained near Batanes early Saturday, while the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continued to affect wide areas of the country.
As of 3:00 a.m., the typhoon’s center was estimated 490 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 170 kph, moving northwestward at 20 kph.
PAGASA said Batanes will experience stormy weather, with moderate to heavy rains and gale-force winds that could trigger flash floods and landslides and pose a minor to moderate threat to life and property.
Cagayan is expected to have rains accompanied by gusty winds, with possible flooding and landslides and a minimal to minor threat from strong winds.
Meanwhile, Habagat will bring occasional rains over Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas. Residents in these areas were advised to watch for possible flooding and landslides.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are also forecast over the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Isabela due to the typhoon. Similar weather conditions are expected across the rest of Luzon and the Visayas because of the southwest monsoon.
Coastal waters over the rest of Luzon, the Visayas, and the northern and eastern sections of Mindanao will be moderate to rough, with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 3.4 meters. The rest of Mindanao will experience moderate seas, with waves between 1.2 and 2.1 meters.
PAGASA advised the public, particularly those in flood- and landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant and continue monitoring official weather bulletins for further updates.
