MANILA — Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano has ordered the Senate to convene as an impeachment court on Monday at 3:00 p.m. for the impeachment case involving Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a letter to fellow senators, Cayetano instructed members to attend the proceedings in full impeachment attire.
“The Senate shall convene as an impeachment court on 18 May 2026 at 3 p.m. in accordance with the applicable rules and procedure. You are hereby requested to be present at the session hall on the said date and time in observance of the solemnity of the proceedings and pursuant to the Senate rules of procedure impeachment trial,” the message stated.
He said he has already discussed the matter with the majority of senators, who agreed to continue using the rules applied in past impeachment trials.
Cayetano also confirmed that all senators have received copies of the impeachment articles.
He denied claims that leadership changes were made to delay the proceedings.
