MANILA – Dangerous heat index levels are expected in 44 areas nationwide on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The weather bureau explained that the heat index measures how hot it feels to the body when humidity is factored in with air temperature.
Among the areas forecast to reach the highest heat index of 44°C are Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Camiling, Tarlac; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Dumangas, Iloilo; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
Other areas expected to experience danger-level heat indices include:

PAGASA warned that heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible when the heat index falls within the 42°C to 51°C range.
Several other areas may also record a heat index of 41°C, including Aparri, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Casiguran, Aurora; Romblon, Romblon; Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; Dumangas, Iloilo; La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental; Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; Siquijor, Siquijor; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Mactan International Airport, Cebu; VSU-Baybay, Leyte; Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental; and Davao City, Davao del Sur.
DMMMSU Bacnotan, La Union and CMU Agromet, Musuan, Bukidnon are forecast to register a heat index of 40°C.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area formerly named “Caloy” was estimated at 980 kilometers east of Central Luzon.
Batanes and Babuyan Islands are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the frontal system affecting Extreme Northern Luzon.
Elsewhere in the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected because of localized thunderstorms.
Northern Luzon may encounter moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas, while the rest of the archipelago will likely experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
