MANILA — A controversial measure filed in the House of Representatives is proposing the ultimate penalty for corrupt public officials: execution by firing squad.
House Bill 11211, authored by Zamboanga 1st District Representative Khymer Adan Olaso, seeks to punish officials convicted of graft, malversation, or plunder by the Sandiganbayan with capital punishment.
The proposal covers all public officials, including the highest government positions down to local barangay leaders. Its proponent said the measure is intended to serve as a strong deterrent against corruption and safeguard public funds.
If approved, the bill would mark a dramatic shift in the country’s approach to anti-corruption enforcement.
