MANILA – Former lawmaker Franz Alvarez has been appointed as acting president and CEO of the Philippine National Oil Co., Malacañang confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, Alvarez’s appointment has been approved and relayed to the media.
He will also assume duties as acting member of the PNOC Board of Directors.
Alvarez replaces outgoing chief Joel Caminade.
Before his appointment, Alvarez served as representative of Palawan’s 1st district in the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2022.
PNOC serves as the government’s key energy arm, handling initiatives in oil and gas exploration, energy development, and programs supporting renewable energy and national energy security.
The leadership change comes as the government intensifies efforts under the Marcos administration to ensure stable energy supply, reduce dependence on imports, and strengthen local energy development amid continuing global fuel price volatility and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
