MANILA, Philippines — The House justice committee has unanimously endorsed its report recommending the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte after determining probable cause.
All 55 lawmakers present voted to adopt the amended report during Monday’s hearing, following a motion by Deputy Speaker David Suarez. Committee chair Gerville Luistro confirmed the result through a nominal vote.
The report, which includes the articles of impeachment, will next be transmitted for scheduling by the House Committee on Rules before it reaches the plenary.
The panel’s action caps a series of hearings that examined the complaints’ validity and supporting evidence. Some complaints were either dismissed or withdrawn earlier in the process, while the remaining allegations underwent further scrutiny.
Issues raised during the inquiry included alleged irregularities in confidential fund use, questions on declared assets, and controversial statements attributed to Duterte involving top officials, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
On April 29, the committee voted unanimously to confirm the presence of probable cause.
A plenary vote, possibly on May 11, will decide whether the House will adopt the report and move the impeachment process forward.
